IPL 2025 Overview
The Indian Premier League (IPL) is one of the biggest and most exciting cricket leagues in the world. The Twenty20 Cricket League is held annually and is organised by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the IPL Governing Council.
The league features 10 teams from across the country, which are grouped into two teams. Within the groups, teams play twice against each other and the top four teams based on points qualify for the playoffs. Playoff winners meet in the final to decide the champions.

Former professional cricketer and Indian head coach Ravi Shastri is known for his deep cricketing knowledge. He’s previously provided us with his insights into the 2024 IPL season as well as the Australia vs India test matches . We sat down with him again to discuss the 2025 IPL season and hear his IPL 2025 predictions.
Top Teams
We began the Ravis Shastri interview by asking him which teams he thought had the best chance of winning the IPL this season. “Keep an eye on Gujarat, Chennai, and Mumbai this season.” According to Shastri, “These teams have the right balance, experience, and firepower to go all the way.”
Best Batters
Shastri himself was a decent batter during his career, and so naturally, we asked for his opinion on which batters were likely to have a big impact on the IPL this season. “Shubman Gill has been in sublime form, and this could be another massive season for him. Sanju Samson, with his flair and power-hitting, is someone who can take any bowling attack apart on his day.”
Best Bowlers
Good bowlers can make or break a team’s chances, and one particular player stands out to Shastri for the 2025 Indian Premier League season. “Harshit Rana is a promising talent. He has pace, aggression, and the ability to make an impact in crucial moments.”
Rising Stars to Watch
We also asked for Shastri’s thoughts on emerging talents that could make their mark in 2025. “Sai Sudharsan has shown tremendous potential, and Nitish Kumar Reddy is another exciting prospect. Both these youngsters have the temperament and skills to make a difference this season.”
Which Team Will Dominate the Tournament?
The Chennai Super Kings are currently second favorites to win the IPL in 2025, but Shastri has picked them as one of his top sides to win. They got off to a good start already, beating the Mumbai Indians by 4 wickets in their opening match.
The Super Kings have won 5 IPL titles in their history, including most recently in 2021 and 2023. They retained several key players, including captain Ruturaj Gaikwad and former captains MS Dhoni and Ravinda Jadeja, who will be an integral part of the team’s success.
Who Will Be the Star Players?
Travis Head is currently the favorite player to be awarded the top tournament batsman of the IPL this season. Other players in the running are Ishan Kishan, Virat Kohli and Ruturaj Gaikwad.
Shastri’s pick, Shubman Gill, is the 5th favorite according to the latest Indian Premier League odds, and he had a great season in 2023, playing in his third consecutive final, although his side lost. While he started strong in 2024, his form tapered off as he ended up with 426 runs at a strike rate of 147.40.
Shastri also highlighted Sanju Samson of the Rajasthan Royals. Samson was part of the Team India squad which won the 2024 World Cup . He had his best season in 2024 and is currently the 7th favorite to win the top tournament batsman.
