Europa League Predictions
This season of the Europa League has been full of twists and turns, with surprises at each stage of the competition. Some of the biggest teams, such as Roma, Ajax, Fenerbahce, Porto and Galatasaray have already been sent home. The remaining teams are among the best in Europe, although there are still some surprises among them, such as Bodø/Glimt. Athletic Bilbao are the current favorites, although the two English clubs, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur, are also highly rated.
Europa League Picks to Win Finals
Athletic Bilbao
Bilbao are the current favorites to lift the trophy. Aside from being a strong side, Athletic Bilbao have a significant advantage if they reach the final, as it’s being held in their home stadium. They finished the league stage in 2nd place, just behind Lazio on goal difference, and since then, they’ve knocked out Roma. They need to get past the Rangers to progress to the final.
Manchester United
Manchester United may have had a difficult season in the Premier League, but they’re still one of the favorites to win the Europa League. They’ve looked great in the tournament so far, achieving a 3rd place finish in the league stage and knocking out Real Sociedad in the round of 16. Now, they’ll need to defeat Lyon to remain in the competition.
Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham are also having a difficult league season, with injuries derailing their season and their manager under pressure to get results. However, they could still pick up silverware if they continue to play well in the Europa League. They finished the league in 4th place and got past AZ in the last round. Now they’ll have to secure a win against Frankfurt to progress.
Eintracht Frankfurt
Frankfurt were the only German side to progress past the league phase, which they finished in 5th place. In the last round, they defeated Ajax and will now have to secure a win against Spurs to reach the semi-finals. The 1st leg ended in a 1-1 draw, so it’s all to play for in the return fixture, which will be a home game for Frankfurt.
Lazio
Lazio finished at the top of the league stage, making them one of the favorites to win the competition. They beat Viktoria Plzen 3-2 on aggregate in the first knockout round. However, they lost their quarter-final 1st leg against Bodø/Glimt. They’ll need to overturn a 2 goal deficit to reach the semi-finals. It’s not an impossible task, but it definitely affects their chances.
Olympic Lyon
Lyon finished the league stage in 8th place, and they recorded an impressive 7-1 aggregate win over FCSB in the last stage. They have to defeat Manchester United to progress to the semi-finals, which isn’t an easy task, but the 1st leg of the tie ended 2-2. Winning the away leg will make them one of the favorites.
Bodø/Glimt
Bodø/Glimt are one of the smallest teams in the Europa League, playing in a ground with a capacity of 8,270. They finished in 9th place, progressing to the knockout stages through the playoffs after beating Twente 6-4 on aggregate. In the next round, they defeated Olympiacos 4-2 and now hold a 2-goal advantage over Lazio going into the 2nd leg of the quarter-finals.
Glasgow Rangers
Rangers surprised a lot of fans with an impressive showing so far in the Europa League. They finished 8th in the league stage, progressing straight to the last 16, where they met Fenerbahce. After the score was tied 3-3 after 2 legs, Rangers won on penalties. They drew with Bilbao at home in the 1st leg of their quarter-final and will now need to beat the favorites to progress.
UEFA Europa League Betting Tips, Odds & Previews
When you’re betting on European competitions, you need to have a carefully thought-out sports betting strategy to help you execute things on matchday. Our pointers should stand you in good stead:
Go for soccer lines with longer prices - Rather than betting on the short-priced favorite, opt for markets where there are bigger odds available, so you can win more money if your wager is successful.
Get on board with Stake sports betting promotions - Available for new and existing customers, these can cover all types of offers from free bets to cashback deals, so keep your eyes peeled when signing up. Similarly, those with a more disposable income can join the VIP club and lap up the benefits there.
The Europa League qualifying process provides ample betting opportunities. We have addressed the most common and popular markets that bettors can tap into:
Moneyline - In soccer betting, there are three possible outcomes: a win, a tie, or a loss. You simply back your predicted result, and it’s a great starting point for bettors. Find out more in our guide to moneyline betting.
Handicaps - Here, a value will be attached to a team to level out the playing field. This can make betting more interesting when one team is at a distinct disadvantage. Our handicap betting guide offers more details.
Total - This is a bet on the total number of goals scored in the match or half by both teams or either side. Simply pick over or under a specific goal tally. Find out more about over/under betting in our full guide.
Spread - Like handicaps, a goal spread will be set for a team to beat, such as +1, and if you bet on the underdog, the margin of defeat should be less than the spread to win. Read our spread betting guide for more information.
Outright - Rather than focus on a match event, this is like future betting, so you can wager on a team to qualify for or even win the Europa League, and you can get some juicy odds here. Get the latest details on outright betting and how it works in our guide.
Prop - This can be drilled down into team and individual lines, such as the first player to pick up a yellow card, a player to score 2+ goals, or even how many corners a team will receive in 90 minutes. Find out more about how to place prop bets in our prop betting guide.
Parlay - Here, several outcomes will be tagged onto one betting slip, but all picks need to come through to return a win. This can be framed in the same manner as a multi-bet builder. You can find out more about these bets in our parlay betting guide and same game multi-bet guide.
Live betting - While some may prefer placing their bets in advance of a game, in-play betting means you can wager on moneyline, over/under totals, and other lines. The odds will shift in real time.
Live streaming has been a game-changer, and at Stake, you will find that games will have a “Play” button that you can click on, and coverage will be uninterrupted.
